TOPOFLIGHT DENIES ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CORRECTNESS OF ANY DEM FROM DOWNLOADING WITH TOPOFLIGHT OR EXTERNAL SOURCES. PLEASE CONTROL YOUR DATA CAREFULLY BEFORE USING FOR FLIGHT PLANNING!
SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission)
For general information on SRTM data visit the USGS Webpage (link below).
To find, download, save and use SRTM data in TopoFlight follow the step-by-step procedure (Project > Getting SRTM…).
Note: SRTM files are in WGS84 but are stored in the projection you specified for the base map when directly importing and saving with TopoFlight (save as Quadtree).
Filter points makes sense since a point density of around 100 to 200 meters is enough for flight planning.
We strongly recommend checking the downloaded data as there may occur gaps or big errors in height. Visual checking can easily be done by using the 3DEM application. For checking the heights compare them with a map by moving the cursor to a known height location and check it with the given height from the DEM.
